Mobility for the holders of Albanian passports has reached an all-time high, with the signing of
an impressive number of visa-free arrangements this year, and even more mobility-boosting deals in
the works. Through several bilateral and unilateral agreements, citizens can be excited to learn that
their passport is the most powerful it has ever been, with a mobility score of 116 according to the
Passport Index by Arton Capital. The Passport Index is an aggregating tool that was created by Arton
Capital, an international advisory firm aspiring to foster truly global citizenship. Arton Capital
empowers private clients to improve their global mobility and provides trusted counsel to governments
across the world on a range of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) initiatives.
Most notably, Albanian passport holders no longer require a visa to travel to the United Arab Emirates.
Visitors can now stay visa-free in the country, unlocking countless opportunities for the two nations.
The UAE is an economic powerhouse, and the deal promises growth and broad investment as
businesses build new partnerships and relationships abroad. Albanian mobility has also been
bolstered by a new agreement with China, with citizens now able to travel visa-free for 90 days.
Access to both the UAE and China demonstrates the potential of the Albanian passport in penetrating
lucrative foreign markets and facilitating global mobility.
Other highlights include newly relaxed rules with Jordan and the Dominican Republic, the latter
allowing visa-free travel for the first time since 2019. Those traveling to Togo will also now be able to
stay twice as long as in 2022 under the new rules, rising from 7 days to 15 days. This unlocks tourism
and investment opportunities for both Togolese and Albanians.
In November last year, international pop star Dua Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship for promoting
the country through her music. Born to Kosovan-Albanian parents, the music icon has served as a
symbol for Albania as it looks to showcase itself to the world and continue to build on its
internationally recognised cultural momentum. Dua Lipa is a brilliant example of the benefits of global
mobility, honouring her family heritage whilst seizing the opportunity of multiple citizenship abroad.
This is only the start for Albania, and the government is set to further assert itself as an outward-
looking, rapid-growth nation. In a world that is becoming ever more interconnected, Albania
recognises the many benefits of improving its passport holders’ mobility: attracting investment,
fostering innovation, and deepening cultural exchange. As Albania continues to strengthen its
passport, who knows how many more homegrown superstars will appear on the global stage as a
result?
Armand Arton, CEO of Arton Capital, commented that ‘Albania’s recent rise in mobility
demonstrates its ambition to become a social, cultural, and economic hub whilst facilitating its citizen’s
exploration of the world. Introducing new visa-free arrangements opens the door for investment
opportunities and greater freedom to travel. This is a sign of things to come: the future is very bright
for the Albanian passport.’
